Cloning- Copying Parameter Settings to Multiple Curtis controllers

Cloning is how you copy parameters values to one or more controllers from a saved CPF.

CPF - Curtis Parameter File

The CPF holds all the parameter settings (for example drive speed) that the Curtis controller uses to control the motor its connected to.

DC - Direct Current

Electric current flowing in one direction only.

DEF - Diesel Exhaust Fluid

This is a fluid used in selective catalytic reduction (SCR) unit that lowers emissions in diesel engines.

DOC - Diesel Oxidation Catalyst

A diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) is an after treatment component. It breaks down pollutants in the exhaust stream from a diesel engine, helping to reduce particulate matter (PM).

DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter

A diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a filter that captures and stores exhaust soot (some refer to them as soot traps) in order to reduce emissions from diesel cars. Because they only have a finite capacity, this trapped soot periodically has to be emptied or ‘burned off’ to regenerate the DPF.

EAT - Exhaust After-Treatment

An exhaust after treatment reduces emissions by means of catalytic reactors and filters fitted between the engine and the tail pipe.

EGR - Exhaust Gas Re-circulation

In internal combustion engines, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions reduction technique used in petrol/gasoline and diesel engines. EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine’s exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders.

EM Brake - Electromagnetic Brake

Electro-mechanical or magnetic brakes are made up of coil, armature and hub. If there is no power to the EM brake then the coil will magnetically pull the armature towards the hub causing it to stop. When the EM brakes are powered on the armature is released from the hub and there is an air gap between the hub and the armature. This allows the hub to freely rotate.

enGage - Screen Supplied by Curtis Instruments

Engage screens are fitted to some of our models.

Flash - Loading a Program To a Controller

To update the controller program of a truck we load a new program into the trucks controller. This process is called flashing.

Hi Mast - High Mast

High Mast is an added option that allows an operation to happen when the forks reach a certain height. For example “Hi Mast Drive CutOut” cuts or reduces the trucks drive speed when the height of the forks reach a desired height.

Interlock - Links Main Power to the Truck Side

Interlock is anything that does not allow a device to run/turn on etc. unless certain conditions are met. This helps prevent a machine from harming its operator or damaging itself.

I/O - Inputs and Outputs

Inputs and outputs correspond to the wires that are connected to the trucks controller.

  • (Inputs = Joystick, Buttons, switches…)
  • (Outputs = Horn, Lights, Drivers, Solenoids…)
J1939 - A Protocol for In-Vehicle Communication Network

A form of communication, built on CAN. This is typically used in internal combustion/ engine trucks.

KSI - Keyswitch

A keyswitch is the mechanical switch that links the power to the truck side which is necessary to start and stop a truck.

Loom - The Main Wiring harness in the Truck

A loom or harness is a collection of wires and cables that distributes the electrical signals from inputs and outputs in the most efficient way possible.

LPG - Liquefied Petroleum Gas

Liquefied petroleum gas or liquid petroleum gas (LPG or LP gas), also referred to as simply propane or butane, are flammable mixtures of hydrocarbon gases used as fuel in forklifts or  other vehicles.

MG - Mobile Gantry

A  mobile gantry is a free standing structure used to move a load along its run beam.

MUL - Multi-Directional

The multi-directional range of models consists of the or C Series (C2500 to C25,000), CB, CBE and the MR 1 & 2 trucks.

Normal Mode - Forward/Reverse Direction of Travel

When either forward or reverse direction is selected. The front & rear wheels are facing in the direction of the forks. The directional of travel will be forward and back.

NOx - Nitrogen Dioxide

NOx gases are usually produced from the reaction among nitrogen and oxygen during combustion of fuels.

OS - Operating System

The low-level software that supports the controllers basic functions.

PED - Pedestrian

The pedestrian range of models consists of the order picker (OP), CS, WR and the WR4 trucks.

Pot - Potentiometer

A potentiometer is a three-terminal variable resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider.

Proxi - Proximity Sensor

A proximity sensor is able to detect the presence of nearby metallic objects without any physical contact. A proximity sensor often emits an electromagnetic field or a beam of electromagnetic radiation, and looks for changes in the field or return signal.

PVG - Proportional Valves

PVG are electro-hydraulic valves that are controlled electrically and are found in trucks with Danfoss valve banks fitted.

Regen - Regenerative Braking

Regenerative braking is a method of energy recovery that helps slow the truck down.

PWM - Pulse Width Modulation

PWM is a method of reducing the average power delivered by an electric signal. This is a type of digital signal used to generate an analog signal.

RPM - Revolutions Per Minute

Abbreviated (rpm, RPM, rev/min, r/min, or with the notation min−1) is the number of turns in one minute. It is an unit of rotational speed or the frequency of rotation around a fixed axis.

SCR - Selective Catalytic Reduction

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is an advanced active emissions control technology system that injects a liquid-reductant agent through a special catalyst into the exhaust stream of a diesel engine.

Stability Triangle - Forklifts Center of Gravity

As long as the line of action of the combined vehicle’s and load’s center of gravity falls within the stability triangle, the truck is stable and will not tip over. However, if the line of action falls outside the stability triangle, the truck is not stable and may tip over.
